Hertz vehicle incident report
Accidents involving a Hertz rental car It is Hertz policy to promptly repair all vehicles subject to manufacturer’s satisfaction. Unless you have purchased optional additional liability protection from Hertz, you will be financially liable for any loss or damage to the vehicle up to its total commercial value. Where necessary, the full Accident Damage Excess will be charged regardless of insurance policies taken out with third-party companies. The person whose name appears on the rental agreement will be held financially responsible for damage to the rental vehicle Please refer to the specific terms and conditions in the rental agreement to determine your specific level of damage responsibility.
You and any authorized driver must co-operate fully with Hertz’s investigation of any incident and defence of any claim involving the rental vehicle. Such co-operation includes completion of a Vehicle Accident Report (a link is provided below). A Vehicle Accident Report must be completed for all accidents and forwarded to Hertz within 24 hours. Don’t forget to indicate any person’s injuries or fatalities in the section provided.

How long is the process?
Where the vehicle damage charges have been settled at drop-off, you will not be contacted by us again. If the incident was involving a third party, Hertz may contact you to request further information. Each claim is unique and the resolution timeframe for each claim varies. When does the excess get charged?
For reported damage, you will be charged at the counter. For unreported damage it is generally within 28 days of returning the vehicle.
If I damage the vehicle twice or more, do I only get charged once?
No, you will be charged the Accident Damage Excess (ADE) per incident.
I don’t have enough money on my card to cover the excess, what happens next?
You will be liable for payment of the excess until it has been settled in full. Hertz will contact you for the recovery of any unpaid amounts. What is the follow up-process? Where the vehicle damage charges have been settled along with the rental payment at drop-off, you will not be contacted by us again. If the incident was involving a third party, we will gather all required information (vehicle incident report, police report, documents concerning third-party repairs etc.) and will resolve the matter as quickly as possible. Are there any additional fees other than the Accident Damage Excess (ADE) that will be charged if I damage the rental vehicle? Yes, a Claims Administration Fee may be charged in addition to the ADE for processing damage claims, as stipulated in the rental terms and conditions under ‘Accidents. Breakdowns.
